The Story of Sleepy Eddie James American Roots and Blues/Rock Music Biographie in Deutsch klick hier
A veteran of over 900 gigs in the blues bars across Southern California, Sleepy Eddie James earned his nickname from a habit of performing entire songs onstage with his eyes closed while completely focused on bringing his love of the blues alive. The audience can feel the intensity of his playing as the sweat pours down his contorted face, his shoulders hunch, and his teeth snarl; all the while squeezing every last note out of classic blues numbers from Stevie Ray Vaughn , Freddie King or the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Sleepy Eddie exploded on San Diego’s blues scene in 1993 with a high energy trio called Sidetracked. The band opened the eyes and ears of blues lovers, while performing four nights a week. In 1995, he joined the Southern California based blues band called the Boogiemen. For more than 6 years, the Boogiemen performed at some of the finest blues clubs in Southern California, including regular performances at Croce’s Top Hat and the Gordon Biersch Brewery. The Boogiemen were notorious for their spirited stage shows and great blues music. Helped by the forceful and expressive playing of Sleepy Eddie, the Boogiemen made it to the finals of the regional competition of the International Blues Challenge in 2000 and 2001. In June 2001, Sleepy Eddie shared the concert bill with the likes of Robert Cray, Kenny Neal, and Joe Louis Walker at the San Diego Blues Fest.
With the 2001 CD release, Frisky from the Whisky, Sleepy Eddie brings a collection of his own 11 new and exciting songs to blues lovers around the world. Assisted on several tracks by San Diego saxophone legend Jonny Viau (who has worked with national blues acts like Kid Ramos, King Biscuit Blues Band, Candye Kane and the Swinging Armadillos, and Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers) and harmonica whiz Riche “Blue” Evans, the CD Frisky from the Whisky pays tribute to the great blues styles from Texas, Chicago, Memphis and West Coast Swing and creates a blues style uniquely his own. In 2002, Sleepy Eddie began performing in Europe: as the front-man for the swingin' California Kings (European line-up), and as front-man for a Zurich based band called the Blue Spirit; and as guitarist for Diggin the Blues. R. Ruebli (2002)
